A few weeks ago, Arabella texted me to ask if I wanted to go see Ira Glass DJ. Of course I instantly said YES! So, on a Saturday in September, we went to hang out and dance with Ira Glass. Dan Savage was also there, playing show tunes and only show tunes, so many show tunes. Technically, the event was DJ Ira Glass vs DJ Dan Savage, but it's safe to say that we were mostly there for Ira.
There was a line to get in to the Showbox and plenty of time for Arabella and me to wonder about what kind of crowd it was going to be, what music would Ira play, would we get close enough to touch him etc. Arabella asked me if I was going to dance, which I don't normally like to do, but it turns out that Ira Glass really makes me want to dance! The doubles that we got at the bar as soon as we got in probably also helped. With drinks in hand, we made our way up towards the stage where Dan Savage's partner was already busy DJ'ing.
Before we knew it, Ira was on stage, which was the beginning of Arabella and I repeatedly looking at each other and just smiling because we were sooo giddy just to be this close to Ira Glass. And then...he stepped down onto the floor with the crowd and started dancing with everyone! That's when I snapped this gem of a photo of Ara and Ira. (note the nearly matching glasses)
A few highlights:
Ira going crowdsurfing...twice! Dan Savage made him do it again because he didn't snap a pic of the first stage dive.
Dan and Ira dancing. As seen here, with Dan dipping Ira.
Singing along to Phantom Planet's hit song "California" HERE WE COMMEEE
Ira DJ'ing from his iPad...adorable!
Meeting Ira Glass, 'Hi. Ira.' Oh. My. God. (note the nearly matching glasses...again)
Also, Ira played a great set, here's a sampling:
"Hot Cheetos and Takis" Y.N.RichKids
"California" Phantom Planet
"212" Azealia Banks
"99 Problems" Jay-Z
"Call You Girlfriend" Robyn
"Blister in the Sun" Violent Femmes
"Party in the USA" Miley Cyrus
"Call Me Maybe" Carly Rae Jepsen
Thank you, Arabella, for getting tickets to this and thinking of me when asking yourself, "Who loves Ira Glass as much as I do?" It was pretty much the best, most beautiful night ever!
